Redeemed from the curse!

Today I met a lovely believer who had found my ministry page and asked me who was Ti(i)na Wilder.
I gave her the About section data, and she found the answers to her questions, but her question reminded me of my blog and I sensed in my spirit that I should keep it personal to fill in the respective gap.
Sadly the lady left, for the thought about a woman preacher was too much for her (but in order to acknowledge her best intents - she did recognise female teachers). But there was nothing new in her trail of thought, as the enemy has tried to do his best to turn his rage against women - for an evident cause, recorded in Genesis 3.

14 So the Lord God said to the serpent:

“Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”


It is although a pity that while the world sees today women and men as equal, the church has been struggling with the idea. It is although sadder if any lady believes that she is less than a man, or second-rate, as it allows the enemy to kill, steal and destroy her potential.

God although created man and woman as equal. In Genesis chapter 2 God created a man and put him into a garden where He later came to meet the man and the woman every morning.

7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Then God looked at the man, and saw that something was missing, and decided to make him a helper - someone like him.

18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

In the following verses God worked in co-operation with Adam. God took the ground and formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air and took them all, one by one to Adam to see what he would call them. God had formed a man with a sound judgment and the man could exercise it well. Adam named every single creature by himself.

God saw how Adam had named every beast of the field and every bird of the air and stated again the need to make the man a helper - comparable to him.

20b But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

In verses 21 and 22 we can see how God created a woman who was to be comparable to the man. Douay-Rheims Bible translation says that "for Adam there was not found a helper like himself" and Darby Bible Translation states "but as for Adam, he found no helpmate, his like". Young's Literal Translation translates it as "and to man hath not been found an helper -- as his counterpart". We can see from here that God's original intention was to make both man and woman as comparable counterparts. Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines the word "counterpart" as follows:

3 a : one remarkably similar to another
b : one having the same function or characteristics as another

We can see the creation process of a woman:

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

God brought the woman He had made to the man - Adam - and the way Adam had named every creature God had brought him earlier, he named also this new creation - and called her a woman.

That was the end of the Creation.

In the next chapter (Genesis 3) we can read the terrible story of the fall of a man and a woman, and the resulting curse;

16 To the woman He said:

“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;
Your desire shall be for your husband,
And he shall rule over you.”


Then God made the tunics of skin and covered the man and the woman - it signified the rule of the flesh over their spirit man, and they were both sent out of the garden where they had enjoyed unbroken fellowship with God every morning.

Time went and at God's appointed time - He sent His Son Jesus to redeem the couple (and everyone born of them). Jesus redeemed all humankind from under the curse of the law.

Galatians 3:13 ► New International Version
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."

Some may argue here, looking at how God had cursed also the earth where the man and the woman had been taken. They may say, but the weeds are still growing and we need to toil hard to earn our daily bread.

But Jesus came and redeemed both the man and the woman whom God had made in His own image - according to Genesis 1:7 as living beings (or in other words - as spirits). That thought has been further explained in the letter to Galatians 3:26-27 where He calls us all today as His seed, His sons born of Jesus - the firstborn or the seed He sowed in order to reap a harvest of lives through His death and resurrection life.

26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Galatians 3:28 ► New International Version
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

God did not create man and woman as different, or one lower and one higher, or one wiser and one on a more foolish side. He created them different as to their physical and emotional qualities, but as equals as to their intellect and spirit.

Now if God sees both man and a woman as redeemed from under the curse of the law through Jesus, and takes them as equal - maybe we - the Church of Jesus Christ - should consider doing the same. In the world no woman would like to be seen or treated as unequal as to pay for the same amount of work, or seen as less capable as to her mental capabilities. Why should the Church of God then do any different. Maybe, just maybe it has to do still with the same temptation that made the first couple stumble in the garden and lose their God-given freedom, and swallowing the bait of the enemy who heard the prophesy that God pronounced while cursing him in the garden - that He will use the woman to bruise his head. The woman signifies the Church - The Bride of Christ, made up of both - men and women alike.
